A word from the CEO

Bring on 2018!

We have so many exciting developments in store I simply cannot wait… but first a few things to wrap up (pardon the pun, I also have Christmas on my mind!):

  • Congratulations to the Emerging Leaders Class of 2017. We wish you well on your leadership journey and will be here to support you and connect you along the way.
  • Best wishes to Lauren Moore, our Marketing and Communications Officer. Lauren commences her maternity leave on 22 December and we wish her all the best for the next stage of her life including good health, lots of snuggles and hopefully some sleep. We will miss her beautiful graphic work and humour.
  • Don’t forget to register for our Annual State Conference to inspire your thinking in the New Year - the speakers will both inform and challenge you to think differently about the future and I hope to see you there.
  • Also, take advantage of the quite time over the holidays to prepare your Leadership Excellence Awards nomination. It’s a great way to reflect on the year you’ve had.

Merry Festivus to all – safe and happy times to you and yours.

Christmas Closure dates

Our office will be closed from 21 December 2017 to 12 January 2018. During this time, you can still register for events and programs online.

Season's Greetings from Statewide Super

What a year it’s been! Statewide Super has continued to kick goals and lead the way with outstanding investment performance*.

Over the 2016-17 financial year, our default MySuper option was ranked #1 in Australia by SuperRatings in nine of the twelve months, over a rolling three-year period*.

It is amazing to think that from our humble beginnings in 1986, the fund has grown to expertly manage over $7.5 billion for our 140,000 members. We couldn’t have done it without you and your support!

We sincerely thank LG Professionals, SA for their support and loyalty over the years and we wish our Statewide Super members a very merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year.

Launching New Service

Navigating the Road to Retirement – Workshop – 16 February 2018

LG Professionals, SA is pleased to support members through every stage of their career journey. Are you or one of your staff approaching retirement?

Like any milestone in our lives, planning generally means that we will be more successful and achieve our goals. People usually focus on their retirement savings and income with no real plan for how they intend to manage their life, time and relationships. Fear and subsequent avoidance results in failure to plan.

This program is aimed at those aged 50+ to plan for their future and develop goals and actions through considering the following areas:
  • Career and work
  • Health and wellness
  • Finance and insurance
  • Family and relationships
  • Leisure and social
  • Personal development
Take control and start preparing for your future today!

Leadership Excellence Awards 2018

The time to nominate is now!

Nominate today for the 17th Annual Leadership Excellence Awards! The 2018 awards recognise achievements up until 31 December 2017.

This program recognises outstanding achievement and innovation in Local Government. The association is pleased to present a program that not only recognises excellence but contributes to the advancement and improvement of Local Government as a sector.

If your Council hasn’t nominated for an award before, you are strongly encouraged to do so. Last year we had 108 nominations and 495 attended the Gala Awards Dinner. This year’s goal is to see all Councils represented in the nomination process and celebrating the outcomes – so no matter how small you might think your project is - we still want to hear about it.

We would also like to draw your attention to a new category that we have introduced - Excellence in People and Culture.

Nominating for an award is an excellent way to recognise staff and Council’s achievements and provides you with an opportunity to share and celebrate with other Councils.

Categories for the 2018 Awards:
  • Outstanding Contribution to the Sector
  • Emerging Leader of the Year
  • Leadership in Strategic Financial Management
  • Excellence in People and Culture - new award for 2018
  • Community Partnerships and Collaboration
  • Excellence in Cross Council Collaboration
  • Innovative Management Initiatives
  • Excellence in Local Economic Development
  • Leadership in Community Services
  • Excellence in Environmental Leadership and Sustainability
  • Excellence in Risk Management
  • Excellence in Sustainable Infrastructure and Asset Management

We look forward to reading about all of the fantastic achievements of Local Government in South Australia!

Network News

Network Summit

We held our first ever Network Summit on 1 December 2017, following our AGM, at the Hackney Hotel.

The summit gave our networks the opportunity to share what they’ve been working on, some of the highlights of their achievements and where they see the networks heading in 2018.

Chairs of the networks provided a quick update at the summit and then attendees were split up into table groups to participate in a workshopping session, where groups considered the opportunities for each network, the connections to other networks and any additional feedback that they would like to have considered moving forward.

The feedback provided during the session will be collated, distributed and will assist the networks in their forward planning.

It was a highly successful event, with excellent participation levels.

We look forward to holding further Network Summits in coming years.
