A word from the CEO

In a few weeks we will farewell our Marketing Manager, Linda Wride, as she embarks on the next chapter of her life – retirement! We will both wish her well and celebrate eight years of her contributions to our growth.

Her legacy includes driving our name change and rebrand, adding analytical and creative thinking to our programming, marketing and processes, reminding us to tell our story and put our members first, and teaching us all how to be better writers.

Her humour and caring nature will be missed.  Linda, we wish you all the best and thank you for your service.

Next month, I will introduce you to our current team – as of September, there will be nine of us working hard to deliver our member-led programs, forums, events and services.

I also wish our cohort of Executive Leaders all the best as they commence their program journey this month in Clare. May you all move out of your comfort zones into the space where true learning happens.

And to our Emerging Leaders, you have passed the half way mark! I wish you continued energy for the second half of the program.

Taryn

Professional Development Program
Under the leadership of our board we have been quietly working towards developing some exciting new benefits, initiatives and programs for our members.  You can expect to see a lot more on offer for professional development over the next 12 months.

So with that in mind, we are very pleased to present to you our Professional Development Program for the remainder of 2018.  This program has something for everyone at each stage of their career.  We have an amazing line-up of presenters and these programs have been well researched and thought out to ensure we are delivering what the sector needs.

All of our programs can be delivered in-house plus we can work with you to customise programs specifically for your council.  Please don’t hesitate to contact Kate Staples, Manager Professional Development and Networks to discuss these opportunities with you.

The first in the series is:

Influencing Skills for Positive Outcomes
Friday 7 September 2018 – Our first short program released as part of this program, it’s not too late to register.

In order to improve performance and achieve results, leaders and professionals need to be adaptive and agile in influencing the thinking, decisions and actions of a wide range of people. Being able to influence more confidently and effectively helps leaders to get people on board with ideas, actions and strategies.

This workshop will focus on how to be a more influential, collaborative and adaptive leader in order to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

Click here for further information and to register.

And to ensure we are offering development opportunities for every career stage:

Ignite Light
This accredited program is tailored specifically for new supervisors, team leaders and coordinators. It is suitable for both indoor and outdoor staff.

The focus of the program is to enable those who have limited experience in leading and managing people to develop the capabilities required to be successful in their role. Ignite Light is part one of a two-part program (Ignite Light and Ignite Accelerated).  Completing both programs and associated assessments provides participants with full accreditation of Certificate IV in Leadership and Management.

Ignite Light is broken into five units and runs from 4 October to 5 December 2018.

Numbers are limited, so we suggest you register your council’s interest early to ensure staff receive a place. Registrations close Thursday 13 September 2018.

Click here for further information and to register.

Patience is a virtue - especially when you are new leader.

You need time to gain respect, assess, engage, and sell your new strategy to your new team.

Before you start pitching ideas for change, know this: if you go about it the wrong way, you’ll get the cold shoulder. Worse, you might earn a reputation for not understanding the company’s culture, which could have long-lasting implications for your success.

Selling ideas when you’re the new leader on the block takes a strategic mindset, which can get overlooked in the rush of excitement or pressure to produce immediate results.

Here are five things to consider to help make your case more persuasively:
