A word from the CEO

It’s time to wrap up the year and get keen for 2019! Here at LG Professionals, SA we are tracking to increase our turnover by 50% this year, thanks to you, our members, councils, partners, presenters and suppliers.

Key highlights of 2018 are highlighted in our outgoing President, Beth Davidson-Park’s column. I’d like to thank Beth for her support across her term, and look forward to her continuation on the Board and Executive. I’d also like to thank and acknowledge outgoing Board members Andrew Aitken, Sarah Philpott and Mark Dowd. You have each contributed your unique skills and vision and will be missed.

We welcome new Board members: Pamela Lee, Jacki Done and Peter Bice and look forward to your fresh perspective and passion for our Association. You can see our new-look Board here.

Many of our network committees have open calls for nomination and I encourage you to consider getting involved in this way—it’s a great way to shape the future of the sector, form networks and friendships, learn a lot, and bolster your cv.

All the best for this home stretch to the holidays—a great time to nominate for a Leadership Excellence Award and register for an event or two as you reflect on the year gone and consider your personal goals for 2019!

Happy reading …

Taryn Sexton

Women's Network Conference – 2 November 2018
The Women’s Network held its annual conference at the Stamford Grand Glenelg on Friday 2 November and what an incredible day it was! I think the buzz of local government women networking was heard all over Adelaide that day. There were tears, laughter and so much raw emotion and energy in the room. It was a safe space to share thoughts and reflections amongst peers.

We were blown away by the feedback we received from the day and hope that attendees left feeling inspired, motivated and with some key takeaways to implement in both their personal and professional lives.

A special thank you to the Women’s Network Conference Sub-Committee members;
  • Jo Miller-Robinson, City of Holdfast Bay
  • Di Shaw, City of Charles Sturt
  • Ashlee Chadwick, Yorke Peninsula Council
  • Karen Kelly, City of Unley

Tips and ideas - Wrap up your work year with purpose

Leave yourself a present to return to in 2019
Here's a few tips for you to wrap up your loose ends at work and enjoy your Christmas break without the worry!
  • Put it in perspective
As you're wrapping up your work year, keep in mind how long you're actually going to be out of the office for, and what is likely to occur while you're away. This should help you prioritise your workload and keep you focused.
  • Reflect on your accomplishments
Take a few moments to positively reflect on your achievements in 2018, and acknowledge some things you might like to do differently next year.
  • Plan for 2019
Set yourself some SMART goals for 2019 so you're heading into the new work year with a plan in place. Maybe you want to learn a new skill, apply for a new role or start planning your winter escape? Whatever it is, write it down and develop a plan of action to make it happen!
  • Sign off
Make sure you reach out to everyone you need to before you leave, whether its just some well wishes to your colleagues or to start setting some key meetings to help you hit the ground running in 2019.
  • Clean your desk
This might seem like small fry in the scheme of things, but who wants to come back to a messy, unorganised desk after a relaxing break? Make some time to tidy your desk and organise your important files ready for 2019. You'll be thankful you did!
  • Enjoy yourself!
You've done all you can to leave 2018 on a positive note and you've got a plan in place for your return in 2019, so leave work at the office and give yourself a proper break—you deserve it!
