Leaders Connect

A word from the CEO

On what feels like the 98th of April, I welcome you to this month's edition of Leaders Connect! Isn't it amazing how much a massive disruption to one's routine can impact our perception of time? The LG Professionals SA calendar has a rhythm to it, and we have had to quickly learn to dance to a new song. This song has reiterated to us the strength of our partnerships and also taught us to be brave and take some risks. For our Emerging Leaders Program, that means that the 15th year of the program will see it take a virtual format. When I announced this to our People and Culture Network in their weekly Zoom catch up, our regional members were so excited! And it made me realise that a fear of getting it wrong has held us back in the past, it has blocked us from even trying. But now through necessity, we have explored virtual learning environments with speed, and we are so excited about delivering this fantastic experience. There are still a few places left so register today, especially if you are from the regions and perhaps previously couldn't consider this opportunity.

Moving forward, we do want you to know that we are here to support you and will be delivering many things virtually while also planning for face to face events later this year and into next.

Read on for more information about all our program adaptations and we can’t wait to see you again soon- whether in an online environment or in person when the time is right!

This month we chatted with Hugh McIntosh, Manager, Marketing Operations, from City of Adelaide about his role, being a LG Professionals SA Board Member and his thoughts on staying connected.

What’s your current role and what does it involve?

I enjoy a breadth of responsibilities including leading three full-service ‘marcom’ teams that partner with the wide variety of departments across the City of Adelaide, supporting our three commercial businesses (U-Park, the Adelaide Aquatic Centre and the North Adelaide Golf Course) and supporting our Marketing Strategy Specialist. As a bit of a marketing-nerd, I also enjoy leading the marketing for the soon to be redeveloped Central Market Arcade. Read more...

How are you staying connected?
We asked our Corporate Partners to share some tips:

  • Hold a Zoom meeting for all staff. We held a staff update with around 120 of our team who are all working from home – it was a great way to see and hear from the CEO plus see the whole Statewide Super team and keep connected
Sam Abishara, Head of BD, Statewide Super

  • "When working from home, make sure to stay connected with your colleagues and encourage positive conversations. When video-conferencing, don’t be afraid to ask the IT savvy members of your workplace for assistance if you’re finding difficulty with new technology! I know it’s been a help to me!Sathish Dasan, Principal, Norman Waterhouse

  • “Arrange a ‘virtual’ Friday afternoon team catch-up. We have included a best Hat/Shirt and best Garden/Lawn competition - its proving very competitive and a whole lot of fun!” Darren Wunderer, Team Leader & Senior Relationship Manager, Statewide Super

  • We are all in this together! We're all social and emotional creatures. While it is incredibly important to focus on results and getting our work done, we also need to continue to collaborate, share ideas, and uphold our working culture. Take moments to have fun, stay connected and embrace the change of COVID-19. Join a work team or family happy hour, set up a coffee chat with co-workers or participate in a virtual workout. Let’s use this time to come together and bring positivity in what is an uncertain time. Keep positive and stay connected. - LGRS
