A word from the Acting CEO 

Welcome back everyone! I hope this newsletter finds you refreshed after a well-deserved break and ready to take on whatever the year has in store.

We have hit the ground running at LG Professionals SA – we farewelled Taylor Kruger who is off to start her graduate career and welcomed Hannah Knott – our new Events and Administration Officer who has seamlessly settled in to the team. Read more about Hannah below, and make sure you come and say hi when you see her at an upcoming event.

Our Executive Leaders Program and Ignite Program will commence shortly, and registrations are selling fast for our 2021 Annual State Conference - Trust and Collaboration: Unlocking Results.  I think we can all agree that both have been very important over the last year, and will continue to be so moving forward. With increasing pressure to deliver efficiencies and work smarter we cannot deliver results without these two essential ingredients.  Don’t delay – register today. Not only will this be a great day of learning spent with colleagues, but you will also be supporting all the work LG Professionals SA does throughout the year, so please consider investing in this valuable day out of the office.  

If you have been thinking about nominating for a Leadership Excellence Award but haven’t yet found the time – a friendly reminder that nominations close Friday next week (29 January). I encourage you to take the time to reflect on your achievements and submit your nomination. We look forward to reading about and celebrating all of the fantastic achievements of the sector over the last year. Of course, if you have any questions about the process or online nomination form please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Meet Hannah Knott

Hannah is the newest member of the
LG Professionals SA team. Hannah joined us only two weeks ago and has hit the ground running as our new Events and Administration Officer.

We chatted with Hannah to find out a little more about her and to see what she is looking forward to in this new role. 

Where were you prior to LG Professionals SA?

I previously worked in the hotel events industry after finishing university. Due to COVID-19, the whole tourism and events industry took quite a hit and I ended up spending most of last year working at the Australian Taxation Office doing compliance work on the JobKeeper stimulus package.

What are you most looking forward to in this new role?

I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and learning all there is to know about our Members! I am also excited to jump into all the major event organisation. With the State Conference coming up in March, followed by the Management Challenge and Excellence Awards all within the next few months, I am very excited to see all the hard work the team has been doing come to life!

What is an interesting fact about you that not many people know?

When I was younger, my sister went on a trip to Perth that I couldn’t go on, and I had asked her to get me something while she was over there. As a gag gift, she got me a snow globe thinking that I would not like it. She was very surprised when I started collecting them after this, and I now have a whole shelf-full of them from all over the world!

How do you spend your leisure time outside of work?

I spend a lot of my free time catching up with friends and family. I have a three-year-old nephew who keeps me on my toes, and another niece or nephew on the way who is due in a few weeks! I enjoy a good book and movie to get stuck into (Harry Potter being one of my favourites!) I am also an accredited official for Artistic Roller Skating in Australia and judge at the competitions in South Australia. I used to compete in the sport when I was younger and began judging once I stopped competing to try and give back to the sport!

What made you sign up for the Emerging Leaders Program?

signed up for the Emerging Leaders Program to further my growth in my Leadership and to gain a better understanding of Local Government.

Can you give us your top three highlights from the program? 

Three highlights form the program would have to be:

  • Meeting so many great individuals from different Councils, having an understanding of their work environments and situations
  • Self-Reflection assignment and TMS Profiles - understanding how I like to work
  • All the presenters and teachers - I thought they were all fantastic

What is your advice for someone who is thinking of undertaking this program in 2021?

Go in with an open mind and willingness to learn and grow. The program is well organised and beneficial for anyone working in Local Government.
