The 2024 LG Professionals SA Economic Development Conference ‘Future Prosperity: Building Tomorrow’, is a premier forum designed to equip Local Government Professionals with the insights and strategies needed to drive South Australia’s future economic prosperity. As the only event focused exclusively on the unique challenges and opportunities for councils in economic development, this conference will offer a blend of expert guidance, real-world case studies, and actionable strategies.

With Deputy Premier Dr. Susan Close MP, internationally sought after AI futurist Simon Kriss and UniSA Chair of Economics Dr. Susan Stone headlining the event, attendees will gain critical insights into how global shifts in workforce dynamics, sustainable industries, and technology are reshaping the local economies. In an era where councils are key enablers of economic growth and community prosperity, this year’s conference will provide practical solutions to some of the most pressing challenges, including:

  • Building a future-ready workforce by addressing skills shortages and embracing technological change
  • Urban and industrial regeneration projects that ensure communities can attract and retain the industries and the talent they need to thrive
  • Using AI to improve council service delivery and community engagement, ensuring smarter, more efficient operations
  • Harnessing the potential of green energy, green minerals and our new, merged University, to secure South Australia’s global leadership in the low-carbon economy

The conference will move beyond theory, emphasising the importance of implementation. The session What Does Change Look Like?, facilitated by industry experts, will explore how councils can accelerate the adoption of innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of their communities. The focus will be on equipping attendees with the tools to navigate the complexities of regulatory frameworks, drive forward-thinking investment, and ensure that councils play an active role in leading economic transformation.

This event offers Local Government Professionals the opportunity to not only learn from experts but also to collaborate with peers, share best practice, and build the networks needed to foster sustainable economic growth.

Whether directly shaping economic strategies or contributing through broader initiatives that support growth, this conference provides an unparalleled platform to collaborate, innovate, and drive long-term prosperity for local communities.
