The Paddock and the Peak
Dan Jellings, Senior Consultant, BRM Advisory
Alice Smith, Strategic Planning Project Officer, City of Mitcham

Always looking for opportunities for positive change, City of Mitcham wondered if it could approach its latest legislated review of its strategic management plans differently. Rather than apply the same, known, technical methodology, could it build partnerships, develop acumen, and elevate strategic ambition? The result, From Paddock to Peak, focussed on enabling the Council to deliver a new, shared ambition, through training delivered in partnership with New Zealand consultant, Alicia McKay.

Partnering senior leaders and Council Members together has changed the game. This journey has council and its administration working with shared understanding, language, and concepts. It continues to be embedded across the entire organisation. Alice and Dan will share how City of Mitcham is primed to achieve not just an updated plan and priorities, but an improved culture underpinned by clear roles, increased trust, respect, and improved decision-making.

A seasoned public sector manager and consultant, Dan Jellings brings with him two decades of experience initiating change and improvements across the areas of strategy and governance. As a big picture thinker, Dan is passionate about effective strategy and healthy organisations with positive cultures, having spent years developing, executing and leading business improvement and service review projects and teams.

Alice has been the Strategic Planning Project Officer at City of Mitcham for five years. She has worked in local government for twelve years in open space, recreation, sport and strategic planning roles, and has also worked for the State Government administering the Open Space and Places for People grant funding programs. This experience has seen Alice work closely with the community, executive leaders, and Council Members to prepare strategic management plans, annual business plans, strategies, and master plans.

Strategic Dreams: BHAGs walk among us!
Ania Karzek, Manager Strategy and Governance,
City of Holdfast Bay

An all-inclusive, ‘choose your own adventure’ style interactive workshop session, with options to share ‘big hairy audacious goals’ in your strategic plans, organisation or team, and/or to discuss the challenges that may prevent us, or our organisations, from dreaming big.

As an experienced public policy practitioner, Ania is driven by deep empathy and resolute determination to achieve outcomes. Always asking why, she will help you find the unexpected connections and distinguish between the symptoms and the cause to find out what’s holding back those big dreams.
